Poem: Sit Here, Watch.

Six a.m., the sun slowly comes up,
I sit here anticipating what today brings
You see, yesterday, I thought
Everything would be accomplished tomorrow
But my bluff was called
And that tomorrow is finally here
Only today I feel like doing absolutely nothing
No not to be lazy. No, not that
At this moment, I feel like doing absolutely nothing,
until much later in the day.
If only I had elves to take on the day for me
If only I had another self to take on the pleasantries for me
While I sit here, at the start of the day
Wanting only but one thing
To take in every moment of this day.
It would seem that’s been denied of me
Because engagements I have
And engagements require time
And time demands concentration
And time spent concentrating on engagements
Remove me from the moments I’d have rather enjoyed.
It’s a new day and I’m super excited
It is a new day and I can accomplish great things
I just need another eight hours of lounging
Taking it all in
Before I join the rest of the world
Running around, dabbling in engagements
I don’t like running around, I’d rather walk a straight line
But there are no elves, no other self.
Just me and these engagements.
But first I’ll sit here and let my thoughts wander
Until I’m almost late, until I absolutely have to get up
Because this moment is life for me.
To be here, just thinking to myself
Today, I actually experienced the Sun rise.
The Sun had someone witness its tease
The gradual rise and its ultimate reveal
Someone in the moment, not occupied by a cellphone
Or with blurry, sleepy eyes
But someone who intentionally waited and watched
As the sun gave it’s morning dance, despite engagements.
