Poem: Magic Tricks

we do so well keeping our secret a secret
laughing with the group
we laugh at the group
for being oblivious to our tryst
mesmerizing it is
when you look towards me then look around
checking if I were looking at you
captivating it is
us being a secret in open spaces
the gap between where you seat and where I stand
the hidden flirtatiousness
without making our friends uncomfortable
like an art it is
detecting what you do simply for my pleasure
and how I respond knowing you’d see without making eye contact
I like you but I like the secrecy of us much more
what immense pleasure is lost to “couples”,
those ridden with public and loud displays of affection
I wouldn’t shout at the top of my lungs for you
I would, in public but no one else would hear but you
You wouldn’t be jealous of who I talk to
You would, but in a way only I can tell
the mere pressure to conceptualize ways to interact with you
communicate with you, express urges and desires to you
whilst laughing along to my friend’s colorless joke
that pressure is captivating, stimulating and erotic
we float amidst mere mortals like
sensual experts dodging the amatuer’s hint of exposure
I walk away when others flirt with you
“Enjoy” I say, as you force a grin,
witholding yourself from walking away with me
I live for those rare moments
that brings us sitting together on that floorboard
we extend our hands just enough
where the tip of my last finger
merely touches the tip of your pinky finger,
no words
nothing special to the outside eyes
our friends walk around talking,
guys inconvenience themselves to talk to you
yet all our energy and utmost longing launches out of our pinky
my nerves jump in ecstasy when we high five in front of everyone
as I suffocate at the hint of interlocking our fingers
praying memories do not betray our senses
I admire your mind and the ways we reason alike
indulging in this magic tricks of secrecy
makes you goddess amongst women.
